Overview

In Decibel Assignment 1 - Discussion, we shook hands with Decibel and watched a collection of videos overviewing some features and tips.

On a music business level, one of the main differences of music over the decades of music production is, in fact, the volume level of the music. For example, when music was first broadcast over the radio, the music production team strived to make their music as loud as possible so that their songs on the radio were louder than the competition. This made their songs sound better on the radio which converted to higher record sales. This was the beginning of the “Loudness Wars”. With the advent of streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal, the Loudness Wars have ultimately been controlled by these platforms instead of the radio stations. This day and age, being aware of the volume levels of music is very important. There are many hardware and software volume level metering tools.

Decibel is one of the best level metering tools available for free through pureMix as a subsidiary of process.audio. Now, let's dig a little deeper and explore the different modules it offers.
